Bertram acquires Oranges and Lemons nursery group

Bertram nursery chain has bought the Oranges and Lemons nursery group, a chain of four nurseries in Dundee for £3.25m.

The acquisition means Bertram now owns 36 nurseries.

Courteney Donaldson, director of childcare at Christie & Co, which brokered the deal, said: “As we predicted in January 2014, nursery group transactions are becoming more regionally driven. Buyer demand continues to remain incredibly high with UK trade buyers like Bertram, and ‘overseas’ early years operators and investors, seeking regional platform acquisitions.”

The Bertram group does not plan to rebrand Oranges and Lemons nurseries, which were founded in 1998 by Peter Marr and his wife, but the group said it will refurbish all four nurseries.

Bertram Nursery Group Ltd was set up in 2007, bringing together Happitots Day Nurseries Ltd and Strawberry Hill Nursery.

In early 2008, the group acquired the Holyrood Nursery Group and has since taken over other nurseries in Scotland and England.
